Lowering the voting age will provide youth with another tool they need to take on the climate crisis.

What is Vote16HI?

Vote16HI is a coalition of youth, adult allies, and organizations that support lowering the voting age to 16 in Hawaiʻi.

You may be wondering why HYCC, a climate justice organization, is one of the leading organizations in the Vote16HI coalition. The answer is intersectionality.

Youth have proven that they are engaged citizens who can organize to help solve complex, capacious issues. However, they are still prohibited from utilizing one of the most important tools in a democracy: the vote. It is important that elected officials are held accountable to both youth and adult voices. Youth need all the tools to fix climate change, and that includes the right to vote.
